Ganesh Chaturthi 2021: How to Prep Oily Skin for Makeup

Spread the word!

If your skin is a water park for your makeup to slip ’n’ slide on all day, I understand your pain because Ganesha knows how hard it is to find the perfect skin prepping regimen for oily skin.

And as much as you would like to make makeup the solution to your oily skin problems — well, you can’t. Because applying makeup on already drippy makeup will just make you look like a blotchy, cakey mess. So honey, I think you know where this is going. You’ve got to — PREP THE CANVAS!

You wont believe what wonders a simple prep routine can do to your makeup game. Its your ultimate cheat code — the hack to look flawless and fresh all day, this Ganesh Chaturthi.

STEP 1: CLEANSE

You NEED to have a clean base before applying a fresh face of makeup. If you don’t do that all the excess oils accumulated on your face from the night before (yes! You sebaceous glands are sneaky little things and secrete oils onto your skin all night) as well as the residual product from your pm skincare routine will make your makeup look all patchy and make it smudge and fade.

So invest in a gentle cleanser — ones with salicylic acid are great for oily skin and gently massage it in circular motions all over your face then rinse. Do not use cleansers that are too harsh as they will strip your skin off of essential oils and in turn hike up the oil production.

PRO TIP — Always pat dry your face, the surface of towels is too abrasive for the sensitive skin of your face and can cause irritation and micro tears. So no scrubbing with towels, I dare you!

STEP 2: TONE

Use a proper toner!

IT IS A MUST FOR MY OILY SKINNED GUYS AND GALS.

It not only shrinks your pores but also balances the ph levels of your skin. It also prevents bacteria from manifesting on your face. Plus this will create your perfect airbrushed base for makeup!

So if you think toners do nothing — excuse you, think again.

STEP 3: MOISTURISE

I know your skin is oily but don’t leave it high and well, semi dry.

It is shocking to me how many people believe that people with oily skin should skip on moisturiser and spf.

If you keep your skin dry and dehydrated to avoid oil production — you are doing something VERY counter productive. The lack of oil on your face will stimulate your sebaceous glands to release even more oil. There is thing known as hydration and its not making your skin oily or greasy.

You need a moisturiser to be a firm moisture barrier and to protect your skin from daily external aggressors like the wind, sort, pollution etc. Moreover you will find plenty of moisturisers and sunscreens suitable for oily skin. Just use a watchful amount. Moisturiser will make sure that your skin is smooth and supple for makeup.

And since its Ganesh Chaturthi lets give your skin a little extra hydration treat. Apply your moisturiser with an Ultrasonic skin shovel aka skin spatula. Apply a generous layer of your moisturiser and gently push the spatula along your skin in an upwards motion (make sure the flatter part of the bended tip is in contact with your face). The effect of this is three fold! Numero uno, it will break down the bigger molecules of your cream thus helping better penetration. Second, the sonic waves will create nano-channels in your skin and ensure deeper absorption. And third, it will instantly make your skin look all chiselled and snatched because of the upwards motion.

STEP 4: PRIME

Now you don’t want all your handwork to melt away, all the expensive foundation now drenching tissues and all that cool eyeshadow rubbed off!

WHAT A NIGHTMARE! But dude- just prime. Not to prime is a crime!

A good silicon-based mattifying primer will help minimise the appearance of your pores, make your skin more even and will prevent your skin from getting greasy. The only shine on your face will be your stunning highlight! And don’t forget to prime your eye lids!

God, oily skin is exhausting but I hope this blog helps you to some capacity.
